The Bowling Club was formed in the late 1940’s when the Factory opened. Initially games were played on Lightburn Park until 1978 when the Glaxo Sports Centre was opened opposite the Factory site which incorporated a purpose built bowling green.
The Club is open to all members of the Sports Club to join and provides a facility to enjoy recreational, social and competitive bowling.
Competitively we have two teams which play in the Ulverston & District League on a Wednesday evening and a team who play in the Furness League on a Saturday afternoon, these teams are open age and include Junior and Lady bowlers. There is also a Seniors’ team which play League bowling on Monday afternoons, the minimum age required to play is 62 years of age.
The Bowling Club is run by a Committee of volunteers, and a team of club members who carry out the routine green maintenance and winter maintenance programme when the green is closed between the months of October to March.
The Bowling Club hold two Sponsored Competitions, by local businesses, during season which are open to all registered members of the local bowling clubs, and are a focal point of the season.
The club facilities include a small club house and three shelters for players to take refuge in times of inclement weather.
We welcome everybody of any age who is interested is taking up bowling and enjoying a friendly social atmosphere, if you are interested please contact the Sports Club office who will put you in touch with the Bowling Club.
