Operating for over 30 years, Hoad Hill Harriers are a small running club based in Ulverston on the north side of Morecambe Bay, just south of the Lake District National Park. No matter what reason you have for joining this club; whether you are a complete novice or an experienced runner that is looking to run with a group on a regular basis, feel free to get in touch or come and join us on a club night.
Be it social or competitive, 5k to marathon, you will always find a warm and friendly supportive welcome here, happy to help you on your journey into running.
Half our members are social runners, whilst the others are competitive runners, racing regularly. We welcome all adults and abilities, and can tailor runs and training sessions to suit you. Both ladies and men enjoy the safety and companionship that running with a group offers.
We organise social runs and trips to other club races, as well as competing in the Mid Lancs Cross country leagues. Many of us also regularly attend local Parkruns or organise small group support training runs for marathons etc.
We run Couch to 5K programmes to encourage as many people as we can to discover the joy of running, companionship and keeping fit.
The Club hosts several well attended races from our base during the year, varying in distance from 1 mile up to 10k These cater for both junior and adult runners and have a growing reputation for being well supported and highly organised.
The club is affiliated with England Athletics, providing qualified coaches, and meeting all the legal requirements set by England Athletics.
Training
We meet on Monday and Thursday evenings, starting the sessions at 7 p.m. and finishing between 8 – 8.30 p.m.
Monday nights are social runs, with three different speed groups operating. Runners are grouped by similar ability with the leader choosing a suitable route for the conditions. Group running in safety not only allows you to run more often especially in winter but also helps to motivate runners to get out and explore the local area.
Thursday night improvement sessions are supervised by qualified Coaches. Sessions include warm up and a structured session of intervals, fartlek, hill reps or tempo runs.
